Confessions

Ok guys.  I have a confession.  I got my Brikka from Italy a while back and this is my story.   I DIDN'T go to a yuppie store and I DIDN'T buy fresh roasted coffee.  I.......well.....I used Maxwell House Bold coffee in my Brikka.  I then got a wild hair and bought French Roast 8 O'Clock coffee (whole beans) in my grocery store on sale at $4.50 a bag.  I ground it in a hand grinder....the same setting I use for my French Press.

Yes....you heard me right.  I DIDN'T use "good coffee" and I DIDN'T tweek the grind and I DIDN'T mess with the heat.

Yet....I went to a coffee shop and had "real espresso" for the first time this week.  Now this wasn't a chain store.....this guy had a $3000 custom espresso machine (not a super automated), was VERY professional and KNEW his coffee, AND used a special blend of fresh coffee beans that he grinds immediately before throwing a shot.

So how did "my" espresso and "his" espresso compare?   Not much difference in my opinion.  Not much at all.

Hmm...: Interesting story although I am not sure if Brikka coffee can be simply compared to espresso coffee...I came to the conclusion that Brikka coffee should be one independent coffee category which has a different vector of taste than espresso if not totally different ;)

: A $3000 machine is not really such great espresso. You have to drop $3000 on a commercial grinder (Mazzer Robur) if your serious and about 10 times the price on an amazing machine. If you want quality go to Gimme Coffee!
